Ghost Recon Wildlands unveiled at Ubisoft's E3 event

Just when you thought Ubisoft had enough Tom Clancy on its plate for 2015, it revealed it was also working on a brand new Ghost Recon title. Subtitled Wildlands, the game will be the first Tom Clancy shooter to be set in a huge, responsive open world environment, giving you plenty of strategic opportunities for taking down your enemies.

For instance, you could choose to go long-distance, sniping at enemies from afar. Alternatively, you could wait until nightfall and go in under the cover of darkness for a stealthy approach. Or you could simply go in all guns blazing - the choice is entirely up to you.

Ubisoft wouldn't give much away about the game's story, but it did say that you'll be going behind enemy lines to disrupt the relationship between South American drug cartels and corrupt local government. Indeed, in one demoed mission, you not only had to take down drug dealer White Hat, but also chase down a van carrying packs of cocaine, so expect tense gunplay alongside extensive vehicle sections.

You can also parachute in from the sky, landing in the game's high mountain ranges before making the rest of the way on foot. This will give you plenty of vantage points for the snipers among you, but you'll also need to be close enough to rush in should targets get the better of you and try to make an escape.

Should you choose the stealth route, you'll be able to use enemies as human shields as well as bundle them into the back of cars for safe keeping. Alternatively, you can send in drones to scout out an enemy stronghold before detonating them right in the middle of the camp, sending the whole base into chaos. However, you needn't kill White Hat, as stealing his stash of cocaine, for example, is considered enough punishment for when he has to answer to his friendly politicians.

It's not yet clear how your actions will tie into the rest of the game world, but expect your actions to have far-reaching consequences wherever you go. The gameplay trailer showed at Ubisoft's E3 press conference only contained pre-alpha footage, but it will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. There's no word on a release date yet either, but we'll no doubt be hearing more about the game at this year's Gamescomm show in Cologne.
