Sony Alpha a6300

Sony Alpha a6300 is the successor of the a6000. While some might proclaim it to be similar to the a6000 by looking at the resolution and the sensor size, the camera holds a different story when the internals is closely observed.

It is capable of recording 4K Ultra-HD videos, which is the mightiest upgrade here. Even when it comes to shooting Full-HD movies, the mirrorless camera can record slow-motion videos up to 120 fps. Furthermore, the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) on the Alpha a6300 is also sharper than that of the a6000 as the viewfinder packs in 2359k dots, which was only 1440k in its predecessor.

But that’s not all, the Sony a6300 also features faster Autofocus (AF) system than its predecessor with 425 phase-detection Autofocus points. The camera was launched back in 2016 when the concept of the mirrorless camera was more or less of a sapling. And at that time, it garnered lots of accolades. Back in its days, the camera bagged the “world’s fastest” title for an interchangeable lens camera with an APS-C sensor at 0.05 seconds.

Sony Alpha a6400

As the name implies, the Sony Alpha a6400 sits between the Alpha a6300 and Alpha a6500. The device falls in the entry-level category in Sony’s camera lineup. Nonetheless, this mirrorless camera packs some of the noteworthy upgrades over its predecessor.

The primary upgrade over the a6300 is the inclusion of Real-time Eye Autofocus and AI-based subject recognition. And it’s the first-ever Sony Alpha camera to feature such notable features. Apart from that, the mirrorless camera detects and focuses on the subject very fast – 0.02s to be precise. At that speed, the a6400 is one of the fastest cameras when it comes to focusing on a subject. Sony has included 850 AF points (425 Phase Detection AF points and 425 Contrast Detection AF points) on the a6400.

Sony Alpha a6500

Moving on, the Sony Alpha a6300 was a great device but the camera had some downsides as well. The absence of the touch LCD and stabilization mechanism was not appreciated in the community of camera enthusiasts. That’s what made the Sony release an improved Alpha a6500 camera rectifying all those mistakes.

As implied earlier, the camera comes with a touchscreen, which is also fully articulated at the same time. With the touchscreen at the helm, it is really easy to focus while capturing images and recording movies. Furthermore, the camera enjoys 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization. So, even when your hands are shaky, the images and videos captured will look rather stable.

Similarly, the Sony Alpha a6500 also incorporates a new processor, which is said to provide a much more responsive shooting and playback experience. And there is also a bigger memory buffer to increase the number of shots during continuous shooting.

Sony Alpha a7 III

Sony Alpha a7 III is one of those cameras, which most professional photographers crave for. One of the best features of this camera is the presence of a whopping 693 AF points, which is currently existing on Sony’s most premium mirrorless camera, the Alpha a9.

The shooter also boasts a brand new backside-illuminated 24.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor with 5-axis optical image stabilization. The camera comes with a faster shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, a better low light ISO, and a sharp Electronic Viewfinder.

The ability to perform continuous shooting at 10 fps and Full-HD recording at 120fps is equally commendable here. The new Bionz X image processor is also really efficient here. The battery on this device provides backup for 610 shots on a single charge.

Sony Alpha a7R

When Sony launched the Alpha a7R, it was the first camera in Sony’s lineup to possess a sensor with a whopping 36MP resolution. And there is no Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) which aids in the resolving power and increased image details.

The camera is also user-friendly by all means. It features tons of customizations and controls to meet the needs of all sorts of demanding photographers.

There are 9 different customizable buttons and 46 assignable functions that can be adjusted based on shooting preferences, including fully customizable front and back dials, a rear control wheel, and an exposure compensation dial. But it can perform continuous shooting only at 4fps, which is quite a bummer here.

Sony Alpha a7S II

Here, the Sony Alpha a7S II not looking appealing when looked only at its resolution. The camera houses merely a 12MP resolution. Nonetheless, the camera offers an enhanced image quality with a negligible amount of noise. It is also really sensitive even on extremely low light scenarios as the ISO range on this device can extend up to 409600.

The ability to shoot professional-level videos is the USP of this device. With its internal 4K UHD recording capability and heaps of video-centric enhancements, the device can easily please videographers. The mirrorless camera boasts a 5-axis in-body image stabilization and 169-point Fast and Intelligent autofocus, which maintains reliability down to -4 EV.

The connectivity options of NFC and Wi-Fi are equally appreciable here. However, the battery on this device can provide backup for just 370 shots and it supports continuous shooting only up to 5 fps, which is quite a disappointment. To note, Nepa Hima is launching its successor, the a7S III in Nepal pretty soon.

Sony Alpha a7R II

Alpha a7R II is a high-end camera, which is enriched with a whopping 42MP back-illuminated Full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor. The 35mm sensor on this device captures sharp, crisp, and lively images with high sensitivity and fast response. The device readily comes with a Fast Hybrid AF System with 399 AF points ensuring superior AF coverage, speed, and well-rounded tracking performance.

The Sony Alpha a7R II also comes with an in-body 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization to suppress the blurs due to shakes and vibrations while shooting movies and capturing photos. But the major disappointment here is the absence of a touch-screen display.

So, focusing on the subject through the in-built LCD is not possible here. Also, the camera can only shoot at a maximum speed of 5 frames per second, which is nothing much to be excited about. Also, battery life is equally disappointing here.

The new image processor is equally efficient when it comes to power consumption. The battery on the device lasts for approximately 650 shots on a single charge. The A7 R IV now offers more autofocus points at 657. That’s a big increment in AI-based subject tracking too. It can detect different subjects from humans to animals. Sony has also improved the buffer on the R IV by 1.5 times as compared to the R III.

Sony Alpha a9

Sony Alpha a9 is the top-of-the-line mirrorless camera in Sony’s lineup currently available in Nepal, which rests well above all of the popular Alpha a7 series devices. And in this “most technologically advanced” digital camera, Sony has packed plenty of interesting features.

This flagship mirrorless shooter features a blackout-free viewfinder that allows for continuous shooting at up to 20fps. It further offers 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second as well. On the photography front, the camera does really well with the full stacked 24MP full-frame Sony Exmor RS sensor.

The device also has an impressive ISO range of 100-51200, which can be expanded up to 50-204800. But what’s really commendable here is the feature to capture vibration-free shooting at speeds up to 1/32,000 sec with a fully electronic and silent shutter, backed by a 5-axis image stabilization system. And the capability to capture images at burst mode at 20 fps speed is equally impressive here.

Talking about the viewfinder, the Quad-VGA Tru-Finder viewfinder packs around 3690k dots, which is the highest resolution of viewfinder Sony has ever packed in its cameras. The Alpha a9 can also record 4K Ultra-HD movies, using full pixel readout without pixel binning to collect 6K of information.

It means that the Sony Alpha a9 oversamples the image ensuring super-high quality footages. Although the device can only shoot 4K videos at 30fps at max, one can always scale the resolution down to Full-HD (1080p) if they require a 120fps frame rate. And for easier file transfer, the device has an Ethernet port along with the slots for two SD cards.
