Samsung has updated its Android app store with a brand new look, rebranding it as Samsung Galaxy Apps and making the company's exclusive content and deals easier to find for Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners.
The old, outdated interface has been replaced with one that feels a lot like the Google Play store, with a slide out menu on the left side for navigating through your wishlist, purchased apps and payment methods. The new For Galaxy section includes Samsung's unique deals and offers for anyone buying a Galaxy S5 smartphone or Galaxy Note tablet, including free Box online storage, six months' free music streaming from Deezer, monthly free eBooks through the Amazon Kindle bookstore and free games.

Considering the majority of the apps found in the Galaxy Apps store can also be found on Google Play, it makes sense for Samsung to make its exclusives and limit time offers easier to find - there was otherwise very little reason to use it over Google's pre-installed app store. If the company can keep securing added incentives for its customers, they might not be so quick to dismiss a second app store installed by default on their handset.
“At Samsung, we continuously strive to create value for our customers by providing differentiated solutions and services coupled with innovative devices,” WonPyo Hong, Samsung's Media Solution Center president, said of the update. “Samsung Galaxy Apps is an extension of that promise, as it offers our customers exclusive apps to enrich their experience.”
The new Galaxy Apps store should be rolling out to Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners this week - if your app doesn't update automatically, launching it should force the new version to download.
