Launchpad is a small feature that first made is appearance in Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Its main purpose is to act as an app launcher on your Mac, allowing you to rapidly launch your favorite apps (especially the ones not present in your Dock) without the need for you to go in the Application folder. This tutorial will give you some tips on how to use the Launchpad.

Clicking on Launchpad (small shuttle icon) displays a screen that regroups all the apps present in the Application folder of your Mac. Launchpad can currently hold up to 35 app icons per screen (5x7). The small dots displayed below the app icons correspond to the number of app screen present. You can navigate through app screen using a 2-finger gesture or by holding down the Command and then press the left/right arrow key. You can easily change the position of app icon with a simple drag and drop action. You can, for example, organize similar app into folders. Simply drag an app icon onto another one to create an app folder. Rename the new folder if needed and then use the same method to add more apps. It should be noted that only the apps downloaded from the Mac AppStore can be deleted from the Launchpad. Click and hold on an app until the other apps start to giggle. Apps downloaded from the Mac Appstore have a small x displayed next to their icon and thus can be uninstalled from the Launchpad. As for the third party apps, you need to remove them from the Application folder of your Mac.
